Guys, We are Here for You, Too

At First Choice, we understand that an unplanned pregnancy is tough on a guy, too. This is a stressful and confusing time for both the father and the mother of the baby. That’s why we offer information and support through the process. We want to help you know what you can do to better help her and maintain your own well-being along the way.

Our Fatherhood Initiative

While First Choice has always welcomed fathers, this program allows us to better meet the specific needs of these young men. Often dads are delegated to the sidelines of a pregnancy decision, but they can now meet with male volunteers who empower them to have a voice. The Fatherhood Initiative will also allow us to better educate these dads to be the best father they can be.

Confident, involved fathers will lead to more stable families and better outcomes for their children.

She’s Pregnant and You’re the Father. Now What?

We know that experiencing an unplanned pregnancy can cause stress, anxiety, and fear.

You have time to gather information and navigate through this challenging time. It’s okay to feel scared. Most men are frightened by an unplanned pregnancy and are tempted to end the situation quickly. We encourage you to take the time to learn. Also, remember to be patient as you support the mother of the baby through the decision-making process.

What You Can Do

  • Encourage her to schedule a no-cost pregnancy test with us at First Choice for Women.

  • Communicate honestly with her.

  • Learn about all of the pregnancy options

  • Don’t rush into a decision; take your time and decide together

  • Explore the resources and community referrals First Choice has to offer

  • Move forward knowing you have an important role to play in this process

Your voice is important. Here at First Choice, we recognize that men need support and education before making important life-changing choices. We will take time to discuss options with you and answer any questions you may have.

There are men who would be happy to speak with you.

How We Can Help

  • Learning to be a Dad

If your partner just found out that she is pregnant and is planning to become a parent, that means you are about to become a parent, too. This might seem scary, but you can handle this. Lots of guys are worried about becoming dads because, frankly, it’s a major change in lifestyle. Fortunately, we can offer you help from other guys who have been in your position. They will offer you advice and guidance about what to do every step of the way.

  • Support from Other Dads

When you are dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, you will need support. No one understands what you are going through and how to help you through this situation better than other dads. These guys have been in your shoes, and now they are equipped with the knowledge to help you. They will address all your concerns and answer all your questions.

  • Knowledgeable Teachers

Since you are working with guys who are dads, they have already been through this. All those questions that you have and fears that you are feeling – they have been through all of that. They lived and they learned. Now they are ready to pass along that knowledge to you.
