Sowing Seeds for Life
by Brian OsnerAs I reflect on all that God has done for First Choice for Women over the last year, I am astonished by his goodness! Once again we had a record crowd at our banquet with nearly 340 people in attendance; approximately 80 more than last year. We also had a record amount raised, totaling $52,739.00. We are simply overwhelmed and amazed by our friend’s faithfulness! When we consider all that we are attempting for the Kingdom of God, it is good to know we have partners willing to help us with our mission.
This year we were able to highlight Girl Scout Troop #30450 for their ongoing volunteer work at our center; including beginning our evening with a flag ceremony. In addition, we were able to share about the fundraising efforts and upcoming work to the Center’s landscape from a member of Boy Scout troop #77. Also noted, was a Ball State immersive learning class who is helping First Choice develop marketing materials, as well as a technology driven awareness campaign; and are thankful that the group was able to attend the banquet. Lastly, MITS approached First Choice about putting in a covered bus stop in front of our building; now completed, this has been a great benefit to our clients and their children. These are just a handful of the many blessings First Choice has received this year, and though it may seem that this is all “coincidence”, we know better! God is good!
Our speaker, Mrs. Angela Minter from Sisters for Life, a pro-life organization that has saved over 400 babies since its founding, shared her powerful testimony of how God has changed her life, and how that the number one killer among African Americans is Abortion. As I researched this information I discovered that a shocking 13,000,000 African American babies have been killed since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Mrs. Minter was a powerful speaker with an equally powerful testimony and we were blessed to have her share her story with us.On a final note, we were pleased to honor two very special people, Karen Townsend, who received the Schuman Award for her outstanding volunteer efforts, and Scot Boyce, who received our Toni Rolli Award for his vast contributions to the ministry.
