Sexual Risk Avoidance in the Classroom

by Keith Willis, SRA DirectorKeith2The beginning of this school year has started off great! We have a new schedule, a fresh new group of students, and a few new instructors in our Sexual Risk Avoidance program! Before every school year begins, we get to send our new abstinence instructors to a three day training seminar where they become certified to teach the Creating Positive Relationships material in the school system. This year we were blessed to be able to send two new instructors to the training. These new employees will be helping teach our very full schedule this semester…and having two new instructors will give us greater flexibility when working with the public school schedules, and the unavoidable changes that need to be made throughout the school year. There are several things to thank God for as it relates to the 2015-2016 school year. God has continued to provide financially as our Sexual Risk Avoidance program strives to stay within budget constraints, while maintaining up-to-date materials for our curriculum. Through the commitment of our volunteer classroom instructors, we have been able to work efficiently and effectively, keeping cost to a minimum while maximizing our resources. In addition, God has continued to give us access to the public school system…what an honor and blessing it is teach Christian values and characteristics in a secular setting!Looking at the schedule for this semester, we are in 11 schools, each with multiple classes. This presents First Choice for Women with an amazing opportunity to impact students at a local level. Our reach into the community through the Creating Positive Relationships material is something we could not do without you!As teachers retire and school administrators move on, it is becoming clear that it may be more challenging to stay in some of our local schools than it has been in years past. We are seeing new teachers become less receptive to the program, and some are not always in favor of permitting class time to cover program materials. We need your prayers now more than ever. Payer that God will allow us to continue to teach this critical character building curriculum in the schools for many more years without complication or difficulty!Thank you for supporting our efforts to serve this community in the Sexual Risk Avoidance department! Through your support, and by the grace of God, the message of sexual abstinence and the education of how to create healthy relationships continues to be shared in our community through First Choice for Women. Please continue to pray for and support First Choice for Women and the Sexual Risk Avoidance department throughout the year!
