The Client Connection

by Leslie HatcherIn the first few weeks of 2014 First Choice ministered to over 200 clients through our various Client Services programs. The generosity of our community has kept our Parent Care store well stocked and enabled us to provide 30 pregnancy tests, 141 Parent Care classes, distribute 5 crib and mattress sets, supply over 1500 diapers, and assist 140 clients with various other baby item needs.Saving Lives…One of the pregnancy tests performed this year was for a young couple who was not married, but had been together for more than two years. The test was positive and the young woman was intent on having an abortion, and her boyfriend was supportive of that decision. They were both very concerned about the financial responsibility of a child. They listened carefully as I explained all of their options and the many services available to young parents; including our Parent Care program. Still, when they left they were undecided. A few weeks later, they stopped by the center to schedule a Parent Care appointment! They had decided to not only to carry the baby to term, but to parent the baby as well. We praise God for their decision and look forward to mentoring them as they await the birth of their child.Changing Lives…Our Healthy Relationships study, developed by longtime volunteer Cindy Johnson, expands on our Parent Care program by delving into the couple’s relationship. Built on sound Biblical principles, Cindy communicates the importance of marriage and of a God centered relationship. One couple Cindy counseled had many concerns regarding a marriage commitment, but as the months passed, the relationship study addressed those concerns and the couple grew in their faith. Much healing has occurred in both of their lives and they have recently announced plans to marry. We rejoice with this couple and look forward to watching them build their relationship around God and grow as parents.Healing Lives… Surrendering the Secret is a relatively new post abortive counseling ministry available at First Choice for Women. We offer both individual and group studies to meet the needs of our clients. To date, over 20 women have found hope and healing through this spirit filled program.
