Edgewood Baptist Church

This quarter, First Choice for Women recognizes another one of our wonderful supporting churches, Edgewood Baptist Church. Pastor Andy Lutz has led the ministry since 2000 alongside his wife of 22 years, Heather Lutz.

The congregation of about 150 meet on Sunday mornings; Sunday school at 9:45am and Worship at 10:45am. Additionally, there is a weekly Sunday evening worship service at 6:00pm and weekly prayer meeting on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm.

Edgewood Baptist offers a variety of group ministries to ensure every member has the opportunity to get involved. There are Sunday school classes for all ages along with the opportunity to be part of the youth group for middle and high school students. There is also a young adults group. The youth group visits a local Anderson nursing home monthly to provide a Sunday service for the residents.

Edgewood Baptist values their mission to “come before God’s people and preach Christ as the final authority”. Pastor Lutz goes on to say “It is my mission to make Christ known and to encourage believers to walk in Him”.

Their values are extended through supporting organizations like First Choice for Women. “We support First Choice for Women and partner in standing for the sanctity of life stating that every human life conceived is made in the image of God.” We are thankful for their commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and their desire to serve the women and families of Madison County. All the aspects of their ministry are needed in helping Madison County; showing women with unplanned pregnancies compassion, educating them on their alternatives to abortion, counseling those who are post-abortive, and mentoring to those who are caring for young children.”

When asked why Edgewood Baptist became involved with First Choice for Women, Pastor Lutz said “For many years we supported the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Anderson. Since its’ closing, we had been searching for another ministry with a strong commitment to the gospel to get involved with. One of our church members, Michelle Holmes, invited us to a fundraiser at First Choice. There we were able to learn more about what they do and what they believe”; and they have been involved ever since.

In addition to their financial support, Edgewood Baptist has members who volunteer in the center on a regular basis. Heather and Laruen Lutz, wife and daughter of Pastor Lutz, are both active volunteers who go above and beyond to support the mission of First Choice for Women and the clients we serve.
